Lethame Indoor Driving Event
19 March 2000

Lethame House at Strathaven once again played host to Indoor Driving. This well attended fixture brought competitors from as far afield as Aberdeen and Aspatria and spectators from Dumfries. What they got was a great advert for this new sport of indoor driving, which is surely now here to stay.

Three well fought classes and a thrilling overall championship, with only three penalty points dividing our top three competitors, 0.3 between first and second ensured that no-one left before the end.

The Single Pony Class was, once again, the busiest and although Ian Gilbert was a clear winner driving Kers Ceilidh, the minor placings were well fought out, Mary Kusin coming from sixth place to claim second after the final two obstacles and the consistent Liz Melville claiming third with a new home bred pony.

A very close competition in the Pairs Class saw Eleanor Bosanquet  hold off Joyce Simpson in a titanic struggle.

The Single Horse Class had the greatest excitement.  Barry Ward from Aspatria looked the winner from start to finish until Ian Bertram drove Beltane Star to an incredible victory with the fastest times of the day in the final two obstacles.  Eileen Cornish maintained a steady third position.

The exploits of Ian Bertram and groom Heather Veitch meant that they claimed overall victory by 0.3 of a penalty from Dalry's husband and wife team of Ian and Ann Gilbert, Barry was a very close third.

Indoor Driving is definitely here to stay with the announcement that next years top qualifiers will be invited to compete in the National Championships in England.
