Andrew Cowdery

Andrew Cowdery sadly passed away after a short illness whilst on a family holiday in America, prior to his annual commentating date at the Live Oaks Driving Show in Florida. Andrew will be very sadly missed on the worldwide Carriage Driving scene. He was a superb commentator at National Events, including Hopetoun, and had a wealth of background knowledge about the competitors, which made the events so much more interesting for spectators. He also wrote articles and reports for many equestrian magazines, including The Scottish Farmer. Andrew was an inspiration to many as he had led his life to the full, in spite of being paralyzed and in a wheelchair for the last 26 years. He was a very loving husband to Lucy, father to Sam, son to Pat and John, and brother to Debbie.

Our deepest sympathies go to Lucy, Sam, and Andrew and Lucy's families, at this sad time.

The Andrew Cowdery Memorial Fund has now been set up in memory of Andrew to help Lucy and Sam. Cheques should be made payable to the Andrew Cowdery Memorial Fund, and sent to Sally North, 38 West Burnside, Broxburn, West Lothian EH52 5RG. All cheques will be acknowledged, so please make sure your name and address are included. (Source - BHDTA)

We have received the following from John Cowdery, Andrew's father:

The details for Andrew's funeral have now been finalised and I would be grateful if you could publish them on the web for the information of all his many Driving friends.

On Friday 23rd April there will be a private family cremation at Chester Crematorium.

On Wednesday 12th May at 11.30 a.m. a Memorial Service and Celebration of Andrew's Life will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Windsor.

After this, for all those attending the service, there will be a drinks reception on the showground of the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The show organisers have kindly agreed to make special car parking facilities available. The family hopes that as many as possible of Andrew's friends will be able to attend.
